Tataouine Governorate (Arabic: ولاية تطاوين) is one of the twenty-four governorates (provinces) of Tunisia. It is situated in southern Tunisia, bordering Algeria and Libya. It is the largest Tunisian governorate and covers an area of 38,889 km² and has a population of 144,000 (2004 census). The capital is Tataouine. This is where George Lucas filmed part of Star Wars, and the city eventually influenced the naming of the home planet of the Skywalker family (Tatooine)
